Barney Barnes is a 25 year old young man that worked as a press photographer at the Daily Herald during 1945. Barney is good at his job and is an expert with the camera and dark room and he spends most of his day on the job trying to flirt with Elisa Ivanov or Gloria Vasquez. Barney is first seen at the crime scene of Alfred Muller's corpse and he is taking photos of it and then he is pushed against a wall and threatened by Officer Bruce and George Hallehan as they think that he is trespassing on a crime scene and may even be involved in the murder. After this detective Joe Gray shows up and tells the two police officers to leave him alone. Barney would later develop the photographs of the corpse and discover that there was a mysterious 'L' on the shirt of the deceased and he would hand that information to Elisa and Joe, who discovered that the symbol was associated with the Silver Legion and the Nazis.

Elisa begins to grow trust with Barney and sends him to her apartment for him to collect a painting of a tree, which had the Scroll of Osiris hidden inside of it. When Barney arrives at her apartment he is seduced by Gloria, who was also working at the Daily Herald but it is discovered that she was a Spanish nationalist spy that was assisting the Nazis. Barney becomes nervous as Gloria begins to undress and then the two make out. Barney's nervousness turns to fear as she holds a knife to his throat and then begins to cut herself viciously and then she buries his head into her breasts, which she had covered in a special chemical which caused him to fall unconscious. Gloria then calls her two henchmen into the apartment and they steal the scroll and take Barney to their boss Dr. Hauser who straps him to a table naked and uses a device to disable his higher brain functions and then transform him into a zombie that will carry out his bidding. Later on when Blade ambushes the hideout, Hauser unleashes Barney to stop him but he turns on Gloria by biting her and leaving her for dead and then Blade puts him out of his misery by slashing his leg and then sticking his knife into the back of his skull, which then comes out of his mouth. Barney's corpse is later blown to pieces when Blade destroys the Death Ray.
